Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long will my portrait take?
A: Sometimes drawings move quicker or slower depending on the size you have booked and the number of pets in that portrait. For example, my smallest size (6×6 inch) can take roughly 10-13 hours (sometimes more). But I send progress updates during the process so you can see how it’s coming along. Usually 2-7 days depending on what you have booked.
Q: Why do you need to see photos before I join the waitlist?
A: I need to see what I’m working with before I make any promises to you. Wouldn’t be fair to expect a deposit payment from you if I have no clue what I’m drawing.
Q: What is the deposit for?
A: Your deposit is paid to confirm and guarantee your space on my waitlist for a specific month. Your month is what we agree upon before you pay your deposit. So you don’t have to worry about anyone jumping the queue. It’s all locked in for you.
Q: Does the portrait price include the deposit?
A: The deposit is included in the price you see on my price list. The deposit is paid to guarantee a space and the remaining balance is paid once portrait is complete.
Total as seen on Price List = Deposit + Remaining Balance
Q: What if I don’t remember when my booking space is?
A: I send email reminders/notifications.
You will receive two emails from me in the month you are booked for. First email is sent at the beginning of the month you are booked for, to remind you that I have you booked. Second email will be later that month when you are next in line and I am ready to start.
So once you’re booked in, sit back, relax and leave it to me.
Q: Can I pay extra to skip the queue?
A: Respectfully, NO. I would not want to disrespect anyone who has already paid to join my confirmed waitlist.
Q: How can I be added incase there are cancellations?
A: In the event of a cancellation, I shall announce an opening for that space both on my Instagram/Tiktok accounts and email my mailing list (sign up on homepage for mailing list).
Deposits are non-refundable, which means cancellations are VERY RARE.
Q: Do I need professional level photos to show you?
A: No. 99% of the photos I work with are taken on a regular phone. Don’t worry if they don’t look “perfect” because I will look through them all and pick out a couple that I know will translate best to a portrait.
As long as they are in natural light and clear enough to see their face.
Q: What if I only have old photos because my pet has passed?
A: I work on many memorial portraits and have years of experience when working with old or faded photos. And even photos of old physical photos. I will exhaust all options to see if I can work with whatever photos you have. Worst case scenario, you will not be able to book a space.
I’ve been working with people’s pet photos since 2021, and I haven’t turned anyone away yet.
Q: What if I find or take more photos after I’ve booked?
A: As long as it’s not the day I start your portrait, feel free to send me more photos at anytime before that. Or save them for when I send your first (of two) email reminders in the month you are booked for.
I’m always happy to look at photos!
Q: Do you offer full body pose portraits?
A: Yes, but they come at an extra cost due to the longer time to complete as well as adding a grounding element like grass, grounding shadows or other things they might be sitting/standing on.
Photos for these need to be clear and light enough for me to see everything. And I do not offer a full body pose on my Mini 6×6 inch size.
Q: Can you add special elements like angel wings, rainbows or full backgrounds?
A: I am more than happy to draw pet accessories like collars, neck ties, or your pet’s favourite toy with them. And I am also happy to draw a grounding element such as patch of grass or shadows.
But I don’t add special elements (like angel wings, rainbows, etc) and backgrounds.
My portrait style is having a clean white background. Backgrounds/special features can lose meaning over time, but your pets meaning to you is timeless. If this does not resonate with you, then I will not be offended if you chose to find another artist who offers these things.
Q: Do you draw human portraits?
A: Nope. Just animals.
Q: Do you only draw dogs and cats?
A: I can draw all animals but I mostly stick to those with feathers or fur.
On the odd occasion, I did draw a Chinese Water Dragon (pet lizard) because they had super clear photos. But be warned, I will charge extra for scales or other animal textures because it will take a lot longer for me to draw textures I’m not used to.
